Newsweek magazine has a new article for its May 12, 2008 issue that studies talk show queen, Oprah Winfrey's reasons for leaving the church she once shared with Barack Obama-Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.
The article states that Winfrey left the church primarily due to the antics of Reverend Jeremiah Wright. However upon further inspection, it doesn't appear to be Wright's belligerent racism or his apparent hate for the country that has afforded Oprah so much opportunity that lead to her departure. It appears her concerns centered more around her bank account and the desire to start her own cultic movement.
Forbes ranked Oprah as the wealthiest women in entertainment and noted that she was the only "black female billionaire." They estimated her net worth at $1500 million and that she pockets an estimated $225 million annually from TV (including shows starring Dr. Phil McGraw and Rachael Ray, produced by Oprah's Harpo Productions), satellite radio, magazines and other multimedia endeavors.
Unlike her friend Obama, Oprah apparently preconceived the idea of what an alliance with Wright could possibly do to her public image and hence her empire.
"Oprah is a businesswoman, first and foremost," said one longtime friend, who requested anonymity when discussing Winfrey's personal sentiments. "She's always been aware that her audience is very mainstream, and doing anything to offend them just wouldn't be smart," states the Newsweek article.
Oprah did not have the same foresight when she jumped aboard the Obama campaign train that was reluctant to leave "Wright Station." She has been in constant backlash from her fans due to her campaign activities and loud support for the presidential campaign for Sen. Barack Obama. A simple search of the term "Oprah backlash" in Google will load hundreds of thousands of pages.
As for the spiritual side of Oprah, it appears that she left Trinity with plans to build her own "church" that centered less around the wacky beliefs of Jeremiah Wright's and more around the wacky beliefs of her own mind.
In conversations with a former business associate, who also asked for anonymity, Winfrey cited her fatigue with organized religion at the time of her departure from Trinity . "There is the Church of Oprah now," said her longtime friend. "She has her own following," the Newsweek article states.
Oprah now offers her followers online courses in her own new age religion that mostly centers around a book titled "A Course in Miracles. " The book was written by Dr. Helen Schucman, an atheist and psychologist, that wrote the course under the direction of an "inner voice."
She also uses her talk show as a pulpit for her beliefs. She recently told viewers that she doesn't believe there is one God, and is currently pushing and promoting study on a book that says man made God.
Long gone are the days of Oprah respectability.

Warning Shot: Stop The Attacks, I'm Not Shutting Up
There's a particular political "agend-ite" that loves to harass and threaten me. Just when I think she has disappeared into her own little oblivious political world, she jumps up to bite me again.
This attacker fancies herself a writer among other things and has even went so far as to misquote conversations with me in a local news magazine that very little people read.
Just when I think it's settled, she jumps up to bite again. On Friday I received a particularly nasty warning letter at my personal email address, once again demanding that I stop broadcasting my opinions and the referencing of news facts.
Apparently, she is under the belief that I am totally void of constitutional rights.
This is a final warning shot.
I will not bend my faith, values or beliefs for you or anyone else.
Money and deeds buys respect from some people, but not from me. When it comes to me, respect is given to a honest heart who looks beyond them self and their own personal gain. Your so-called "reflections" go in one ear and out the other with me.
Future harassment of any kind will result in full coverage of the sneak attacks along with the disclosure of your identity, your campaign affiliations and positions that you hold.
This is not about revenge. This is about standing for what is right. I refuse to enable your quest to plow over everyone you disagree with including the "religious right who are the problem."
We on the "religious right" often have the ability to forgive and forget a difference of opinion and I am no exception. I suggest you some how learn to do the same.

Christianity Under Attack In The U.S. Military
Once again, Christianity is under attack.
This time the targets of the attacks are the very ones who provide our country with freedom of religion-the men and women of the U.S. Military.
One News Now has reported that a lawsuit has been filed by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation claiming that Atheists, agnostics, Wiccans and etc are under undue pressure by their superiors to adopt and espouse Christian beliefs.
"I would say that the atheists and the agnostics and the Wiccans have too much say in what happens in today's military," says Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson (USAF-Ret.) He argues that it is Christian's rights that are being violated and that he would like to see a counter-suit filed on behalf of Christians.
The military is restraining Christians from practicing their religion openly, he continues, in order to bow to the demands of political correctness he believes have infested the armed services.
Welcome to "Liberal PC" America. All religions are tolerated and accommodated-with the exception of Christianity.
The very ones dying for the freedom of religion are under no exception to the rules.

House Dems Vote To Honor Allah But Not Christ In America
On Tuesday, December 11, 2007, the following nine Democratic members of congress voted against honoring Christmas and Christianity as one of the world's greatest religions.
Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY), Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY), Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO), Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-FL) (FL), Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA), Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA), and Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA).
DeGette's chief of staff, Lisa Cohen sited DeGette's "concerns about separation of church and state" to Fox news.
Apparently those concerns are only applicable to DeGette and the eight others when it involves Christianity.
The House voted Oct. 2 on a resolution that "recognizes the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world" and "acknowledges the onset of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and conveys its respect to Muslims," as well as commending those who reject hatred. The measure passed 376-0.
On Oct. 29, the House voted to recognize the Indian celebration of Diwali, in which members of the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain religions participate. The resolution said the House, "in order to demonstrate support for Indian Americans and the Indian Diaspora throughout the world, recognizes Diwali as an important festival. That measure passed on a 358-0 vote.
All nine of the members that voted against the measure honoring Christmas voted in favor of the resolutions honoring Islam and Indian religions.
The hypocrisy of the situation apparently has not escaped the attention of Republican Congressman Steve King of Iowa who sponsored the measure. "The [nine] naysayers didn’t make it to the floor to debate. I would like to know how they could vote Yes on Islam, Yes on the Indian Religions and No on Christianity when the foundation of this nation and our American culture is Christianity…I think there’s an assault on Christianity in America,"he said.
The assault on Christianity at the hands of liberals has been apparent to us who are Christians for a long time. The Christmas resolution simply puts the Democratic party's so-called dedication to equality on public record.
Below is video of news coverage containing King's remarks. If you have trouble viewing this clip, click here.

If It Were A Mosque, It Would Be A Hate Crime

The liberal tolerance of all religions with the exception of Christianity and Judaism has never been more apparent than it has today. It also appears more and more each day that an increasingly immoral society is moving beyond lack of tolerance and is starting to wage war against God in America in sadistic ways that were once unimaginable.
On December 9, 2007, two separate shootings incidents took place in Christian institutions in Colorado.
The first incident took place place at Youth with a Mission, where young people are trained to become Christian missionaries. Four people were rushed to area hospitals where two people died. Three of the four people have been confirmed as being staff members of YWAM.
The suspect escaped and Peter Warren, the Director of Youth with a Mission Denver said the following regarding the shooter. "The young man – I don't know who he is; I don't think [the victims] knew him – but he must be going through a lot personally in his own life to do something like this,"
The second incident took place at a nearby church by the name of New Life Church. An estimated 7,000 shots were fired, leaving one person dead and four others were wounded.
"What happened today was a real tragedy," said the pastor Brady Boyd. "People lost their lives today. People came to church to worship. ... People came to church with their families."
This time however, the second amendment saved the day and lives. The shootings from the gunman came to a halt. Even though the shooter was said to be dressed with a tactical helmet and body armor, he was shot and killed by an armed female security guard.
I can't help but wonder how liberals would perceive these sad events, had they taken place in any other house of worship outside of a church or a synagog. The reactions from the media and the lack of action from liberal politicians is total hypocrisy.
Let's consider for one moment if this had happened in a Muslim mosque for example.
Odds are conservatives in general would receive a thorough raking from the liberal media for their so-called intolerance and prejudice towards other religions.
Additionally, liberal politicians all across America would be found siting the incident as a reason for tougher penalties for specific crimes and more restrictions on the average American's ability to legally purchase a firearm.
After all, wouldn't that be a "hate crime?"

Romney Clarifies Stance On Muslims In Cabinet
According to a new CNN report Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is disputing reports that he ruled out Muslims serving in his presidential cabinet if he is elected president.
Reports came as a result of an Islamic businessman claiming that he asked Romney at a fundraising event if he would be willing to appoint a Muslim to his presidential cabinet and that Romney responded that there was no need to do so.
It was also reported that Romney's national press secretary stated that "the governor does not believe that in order to effectively fight radical jihad you need to have Muslims serving in the Cabinet."
Romney had the following statements to give while campaigning in Florida.
“His question was did I need to have a Muslim in my Cabinet to be able to confront radical jihad and would it be important to have a Muslim in my Cabinet,” said Romney, “and I said, 'No I don't think you need to have a Muslim in the Cabinet to take on radical jihad any more than during the second world war we needed to have a Japanese American to help us understand the threat that was coming from Japan.
“The people who would be part of my cabinet is something that I really haven't given a lot of thought to at this point, but I don't have boxes I check off as to their ethnicity…instead I would choose people based upon their merits and their capabilities,” he added.
Republican presidential hopeful John McCain weighed in his opinion on the reports while campaigning in South Carolina.
“I think his comment is indicative of how he might govern and I think it's absolutely wrong,” said the Arizona senator. “You appoint the most qualified people for the job, no matter who they are, where they come from, or where in America, as long as they're citizens.”
As the story broke, the internet became a firestorm of comments.
Those on the left, whom would generally not support Romney to begin with, primarily claimed it to be hypocritical and bigoted.
Those on the right, which is a voting base from which Romney needs support, primarily expressed gratitude for a candidate's willingness to put national security ahead of the panderage to political minorities.
The prevailing opinion appears to now be that no one is happy in either direction.
How and if this will effect Romney in his primary bid remains to be seen.

Romney A Tough Sale To Southern Baptists?
There has been reports that Mitt Romney had better take a page out of JFK's play book if he expects to get votes from members of The Southern Baptist Church.
"If Romney wants to get significant Southern Baptist and evangelical support he's going to have to give a Kennedy-style speech," said Richard Land, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.
"If I was Romney I would say that I am not the Mormon candidate for president. I am the Republican Party's candidate or I want to be ... The Mormon Church does not speak for me on matters of public policy or faith and I don't speak for them on matters of public policy and faith," he said.
The media has been rampant with blanket statements about how Christian voters in general are unhappy with the bulk of Republican candidates and that Romney in particular has been viewed with suspicion due to the fact that he is a Mormon.
The odds are that media quotes regarding concern from Southern Baptists apply to the possibility of supporting Romney in a general election.
I feel that there is one major point that the media seems to overlook when quoting Romney's trouble with Southern Baptists during primaries.
If they connect the dots, they may eventually find that a Southern Baptist Preacher named Mike Huckabee is on the Republican ticket.

OK Lawmaker Refuses Koran Push From Governor's Council
It appears that every where you turn today, that people are allowing the push of Islam for the sake of "tolerance". However one OK lawmaker has took a stand against this latest example of political correctness gone a muck.
The Chairwoman of the Oklahoma Governor's Ethnic American Advisory Council is Muslim and when state Representative Rex Duncan and other lawmakers received the gift of the Koran from the council, he took action.
"I object to the use of the state Centennial Seal and the state Seal all in an effort to further their religion," he said. In a letter to colleges he also wrote that he rejected the gift because "most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."
Kudos to you Mr. Duncan for refusing to be pushed to a religion that teaches "intolerance" in the name of "tolerance".

Point Scored For The Good Guys!
God To Return To Flag Certificates
When Andrew Larochelle of Ohio purchased a flag for $9 to be flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of his grandfather Marcel LaRochelle, he requested that personal note on the flag certificate read: "In honor of my grandfather Marcel Larochelle, and his dedication and love of God, country and family." However the flag was returned by he the Architect of the Capitol edited for political correctness. The word God was removed.
Andrew told Fox news he was surprised God's name had been omitted and couldn't understand why his free speech rights had been infringed. When speaking of his grandfather he said "His faith life is just very vital to him, he is very God-centered and relies on God whenever he needs strength"
Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to budge when Republican members of The House rallied against the decision of the unelected official to dictate what was appropriate in regards to personal flag certificates. However it appears that Architect Stephen T Ayers himself has come to reason after the outcry from the public regarding the issue.
In a statement Ayers admitted that "It is inappropriate and beyond the scope of this agency’s responsibilities to censor messages from members". Ayers also said that after reviewing the rules, he concluded that they were inconsistently applied and should be changed.
Rep. Michael Turner (R-OH) and others are now intending to pass legislation to protect the use of religious expressions on certificates.
“This government has taken a position that God has to be separate from everything in our lives,” said Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC). “When someone like Andrew is willing to stand up and make a point instead of being intimidated, he has intimidated those trying to intimidate him.” This should be seen as a small victory for the free speech and the freedom of religion. Thank you Andrew! ref: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,302496,00.html
