In this year's presidential election, many have often labeled Sen. Barack Hussein Obama, "The Messiah." The reference is usually perpetrated by conservatives with a proclivity towards sarcasm and by groups of lost individuals who actually believe the hype.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I have never personally called Obama "The Messiah"-even in jest. Even the thought of doing so makes me want to throw up. Although I'm often the "Queen of Sarcasm," there are just some places that I refuse to go.
I have reported on the use of the term by others and would not hesitate to do so again. The way it is casually thrown around is a blasphemous train wreck that should serve as a wake up call for Christians to recognize the seriousness of the times in which we live.
I can think of only one scenario where the words "Obama" and "Messiah" could be combined in the same story that would lead me to rejoice instead of loose my lunch. This would be a story reporting that Obama had surrendered to following the true teachings of the man he claims to be his personal savior. I'm yet to see such an article followed by legitimate action.
Obama-with his overinflated ego and willingness to cash in on the idea that he is the "second coming"-has done little to dispel his erroneous reference as a “savior.” He is constantly trumping his own version of Christianity and is hell-bent on amassing as many followers as possible to ensure his election.
Obama's latest attempt to bend Christianity to suit his own selfish needs and desires is an example of the ongoing hypocrisy of a campaign that knows no bounds. The campaign has now released Obama's own faith-brand line in the form of signs, buttons and etc. CNN recently reported information regarding the release of Obama's faith based items:
“Check out the Believers for Barack, Pro-Family Pro-Obama, and Catholics for Obama buttons, bumper stickers and signs….” says Obama Deputy Director of Religious Affairs Paul Monteiro in an e-mail obtained by the Beliefnet Web site.
“Believers for Barack rally signs and bumper stickers, along with all Pro-Family Pro-Obama merchandise, are appropriate for people of all faith backgrounds. We'll soon be rolling out merchandise for other religious groups and denominations, but I wanted to get this out to you without delay,” he adds.
The Holy Bible gives Christians information on how to prevent "believers" from being mislead. In it, Jesus warned that many will claim to know him and act on his behalf but will be "evil doers" that he does not know. He also advised his followers that we will be able to recognize fellow Christians "by their fruit." To me, Obama's fruit casts the distinct odor of rotten figs. His stances, actions and administrative intentions are-more often that not-in direct defiance to the teachings of Christ.
Christianity is not for sale and the gospel is not open for political correction to fit one's agenda. If Obama's mockery was aimed at any other religion, it would not be tolerated. It's time for Christians to wake up and speak up. Enough is enough.

The only other case where this term would be worth celebrating is if he were the Anti-Messiah or Anti-Christ. And even then it would be a happy event for Christians, but would mean the beginning of the end for the unbelievers.
I'm not even sure what you are getting at here. Most of the "messiah" jokes have been coming from the McCain campaign itself. They portray Obama in this light not because he has ever made any comments in this regard, but simply because he draws large crowds when he comes to speak (and also because they are hoping to stir up people like yourself with this messiah rhetoric).
As for your comments in regards to Obama's faith, isn't that the ultimate hypocrisy? Remember that in the same chapter you cite it also says "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
You say "His stances, actions and administrative intentions are-more often that not-in direct defiance to the teachings of Christ." However, remember the second major tenet of Christianity "love your neighbor as yourself". Christ did this in his lifetime by caring for the poor and rejected. Try comparing Obama's social policy to McCain's and see whose is more "Christian".
Also, tags like "Obama Osama" are just childish. Are you playing at the fact that Obama's middle name is Hussein and that we should distrust him because that is a common Middle Eastern name and many people from that part of the world are Muslim? Disregarding the fact that this is clearly not true you must remember that Jesus himself hung out with people who were decidedly not Christian.
Also, what do you make of these...

Just as bad as Obama by your measure.
I, too, never refer to him as such and find it disturbing. However, a friend of mine calls him The One - a reference to Neo, a saviour type character, in the movie The Matrix - which I find more acceptable.
What a rediculous article. No one from the left is calling him the messiah. We are calling him the best candidate for Change. He is rolling out faith banners and stickers to combat the hijacking of the evangelical vote by the Republican party. Not all people of faith just blindly follow their party propaganda, in fact many still think and those do know its time for Change. Articles like this a re insult to people's intelligence, which is actually valued in some circles still.
