Lawsuit Says Immigration Enforcement Raid Violated Rights

A lawsuit filed by America's ambulance chasers in federal court says that a recent immigration raid violated the constitutional rights of workers at a meat packing plant.

The lawsuit was filed against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Division and several government officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff after the round up of some 400 illegals earlier in the week at Agriprocessors Inc. in Iowa.

An attorney who interviewed detainees learned that Agriprocessors obtained false identification for immigrant workers, improperly withheld money from employees' paychecks for "immigration fees," did not allow workers to use the restroom during 10-hour shifts, physically abused workers and didn't compensate them for overtime work, according to the lawsuit.

The suit also alleges that children of the illegals were unjustly stranded to the care of babysitters and family members.

If reports are correct regarding the company's treatment of the illegal immigrants, how it's the department of Homeland Security's fault is anyone's guess.

Furthermore, saying that officials are wrong to round up those who broke the law by coming to America illegally is the equivalent of saying that a police officer is wrong for apprehending murder suspects. After all, what if they have children waiting for them at home?

Political opportunity and agenda along with the hope of monetary reward continues to reign in America's court system.
