In case you guys didn't notice, I'm a Republican. I never really say it in articles because I don't want to even "pretend" to represent the Republican party in them-even though my "favorite" reader in the party accuses me of doing just that on an ongoing basis. The blog and news articles I write represents me, myself and I-not the party.
If you have read my articles from the past, you know that I was in no way jumping for joy at the idea of Sen. John McCain receiving the Republican nomination. In my own mind I've been trying to focus on the good qualities of McCain (and there are many) to justify a vote for him.
I personally feel that there is only one candidate left in the race for the presidency that truly represents Republican ideals and that Republican candidate is now on another ticket-Alan Keyes. Alan Keyes is now running for president on the Constitution Party ticket.
The media has had much to say about rogue crossover Republican voters casting votes for Sen. Barack Obama and a part of me is tempted to become one of them. However my temptation is not to vote for Obama but for Alan Keyes.
It would take me a lot to make me vote against a party to which I am very loyal. There are a few reasons for this.
1. I love the Republican party and its platform. I am a Republican.
2. Even a weak Republican is better than the strongest Democrat on any given day.
3. If I do a crossover vote for a third party candidate and he or she does not win, I've essentially helped elect a Democrat.
4. When a Republican candidate is not living up to standards, you need to fight for the party and its ideals, not against it. Essentially, the candidate needs to be schooled.
However sometimes candidates like John McCain make it hard and so far the only thing that has stopped me from going full force for Alan Keyes is the fact that McCain may be going up against a new kind of evil-Senator Barack Obama.
The latest example of McCain seriously getting under my skin involves McCain's backlash against an ad run by the North Carolina GOP. You may see this video below. If you have trouble viewing this video, click here.
The "Obama love" from John McCain is seriously getting old. There are plenty of Republican candidates who would have kept their mouth shut about this ad and there are plenty of hardcore Republicans who see zero problem with the truth.
If John McCain feels that this is some kind of "racist" ad, that's fine-but he's dead wrong. Exposing liberal racism and hate does not a racist make.
John McCain is in a prime position right now. His current Democratic opponents are tearing themselves apart. Whoever he faces off against in November is going to be battered and bruised. He has nothing to lose but everything to gain by simply keeping his mouth shut. Making comments that divides his own party does him no good.
So do me a favor John McCain, just shut up already and my hat is off to the NCGOP. Please keep up the good work. We Republicans need you.

I Agree, I voted for Perot and look where it got us...
Man, I hear ya. I am a pretty die-hard Ron Paul supporter. IMHO, he is the only truly conservative Republican anymore. I've seriously thought about voting third party too (Libertarian and Constitutional). Man this election is going to suck.
John McCain is showing his warts again, particularly since it involves his mouth. He didn't make high Navy rank because of it, and his criticism of the NC GOP's anti-Obama ad is just another (of many) examples. The guy needs to sew it shut. He's barely even a RINO.
Dr. Keyes would make a much better presdident than either of the Three Midgets, and I've read his work and listened to his words for over ten years now.
Give 'em hell, Holly. Your clear prose and clearer thinking have won me as a fan/reader.
Very well said Holly, I agree totally with your 4 points. Allan Keyes would make a far better President than McCain and I won't even consider the American Socialist Party as a viable option. Unfortunately, a vote for Mr Keyes would in the long run be a vote for the Socialist Party and I can not give him my vote. In the 7 Presidential elections I have participated in, this is the first time I will vote for the second best candidate.
If the "Pied Piper" or the "Narcissist" win the Election, I have a deep seated fear of where this country will be in 4 years. We haven't even recovered from Hillary's first 8 years and now she is reaching so far to the Left that Carl Marx is sitting up in his grave and smiling. Obama "The Piper" scares me even more than she does with his ties to the Islamic world. So the bottom line is that McCain with all of his flaws is the only viable candidate or to say this another way, of the three he will do the least amount of damage to our country.
As to him speaking out about the ads coming from the Socialist or responding to the Socialist, he is better off sticking to his platform and letting the other two rip each other apart. His mouth will do him more harm than good.
God Bless America, we need it!

Excellent piece Holly!
As always Holly, Excellent insight!
I was thinking today after reading several articles where McCain is "soft" on Obama and I thought to myself, "How is he going to be in the White House?" Please don't say anything nasty to Osama. That isn't very nice. This Political correctness is gone too far.
BTW, I did mean Osama, though it does sound like Obama. Never noticed that before. hmmm.
I have been seeing you on StumbleUpon. You're doing a great job.
Interesting, but i disagree. Even if you think he's taken it too far, McCain is to be applauded for seeking to run a campaign that focuses on his strengths rather than attacks his opponent's faults. McCain has principles, and he sticks by them - even when his party attacks him for it. I'd much rather have a pincipled candidate with whom i occasionally disagree than a candidate who just follows the party 'leadership'.
actually, i just wrote a blog post on this issue myself a couple days ago:

I agree with you that voting for a third person candidate will do no good. I also don't see anything wrong with the North Carolina GOP ad.
