The Minimization Of A Divided GOP

Wednesday night I prayed about the troubling division in the Republican party. The situation has been very troubling to me because I know that this election may very well decide the future of liberty in our country.

My greatest fear for the nation is that we will soon elect a president who will plunge us into the darkness of immorality and create weakness in the face of terror.

On Thursday, the Republican party may have received the first glimpse at what it so desperately needs-a road to unity.

Republican candidate John McCain took the stage with the Conservative Political Action Committee that he once snubbed.

During his speech he agreed that while he may not always see eye to eye with all conservatives, he will seek their council on issues. He also attempted to remind them of their shared values.

While McCain may have aided in the healing process among some, it was rival candidate Mitt Romney who offered the largest hope for possible unity.

As of late, Romney has had to share a split of the conservative vote with rival candidate Mike Huckabee.

Conservative voters who see values as paramount has primarily aligned themselves with Huckabee, while those who see fiscal issues as the primary concern has leaned more towards Romney.

When Romney took the CPAC stage on Wednesday, he suspended his race for the White House. The division among the conservative vote is realistically no longer a factor. Pride needs to be set aside and that needs to be recognized as we move forward.

Two men are left standing at the finish line. Now is the time to examine the true positions of both and pick the overall best.

The future of our country may very well depend on it.

This year's been pretty crazy with the different people that have been running. I guess we'll get to see pretty quickly the answer to your question a little while ago about who was really being the spoiler!

Not being a Republican, I just have to wait and see. There are some disadvantages to being a registered Conservative.

I know people who changed their registration from Independent to Republican in order to vote in this primary. Many conservatives don't like being affiliated with a party. When asked I tell people I am registered as a Republican, but only for voting purposes and that is subject to change. I side with values, not political parties. So the election could harm the party, if it helps a new and better, more moral party, who cares? On the other hand, people could rally behind Huckabee and he could get the nomination, which could even give the Republican party a moral boost. Also, Romney did not drop out, he suspended his campaign, which means he still controls his delegates.
